ABOUT GEMMA

Background

I am a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with over 20 years’ clinical experience working with adults experiencing a wide range of psychological and emotional difficulties.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapy and have undertaken further postgraduate training in Compassion Focused Therapy and Schema Therapy. My approach is primarily grounded in CBT, while drawing on compassion-focused and schema-informed approaches according to each person’s individual needs.

Before establishing my private practice, I worked for many years within mental health and disability services, including a decade as a CBT therapist at St Patrick’s Mental Health Services in Dublin. I now work with adults in my private practice in Templeogue.

BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

Over 20 years' clinical experience in mental health and psychotherapy

Areas of particular interest include anxiety, OCD, binge eating difficulties and menopause-related psychological difficulties

Experience

I have over 20 years’ clinical experience working across mental health, disability services and private practice.

Earlier in my career, I worked with National Learning Network, supporting adults with physical, intellectual and mental health difficulties.

I subsequently spent ten years as a CBT therapist at St Patrick’s Mental Health Services in Dublin, working with both inpatients and outpatients across a wide range of psychological difficulties. I was also a member of the Young Adult Programme multidisciplinary team and facilitated both individual and group CBT.

I now work in private practice with adults, providing evidence-based psychological therapy tailored to each person’s individual needs.

My Approach

I aim to provide a warm, collaborative and practical approach to therapy. I work primarily within Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while also drawing on Compassion Focused Therapy and Schema Therapy where appropriate.

Therapy is tailored to the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we develop an understanding of what may be contributing to current difficulties and identify practical ways of creating meaningful and lasting change.

My aim is to provide a supportive space in which people can develop a greater understanding of themselves, learn effective ways of managing difficulties and build on their existing strengths.
